Who is Alpine Adam?

For more than 15 years, the mountains have been a defining part of my life.

What began with a curiosity for exploring local peaks has grown into a deep and lasting commitment to climbing, ski touring, mountaineering and alpine environments. Over recent years that experience has evolved into my professional career as an Assisnant Climb & Ski Guide, an alpine coach & mentor, and Alpine Search & Rescue Ranger, training and working in some of New Zealand’s most demanding alpine terrain.

But for me, being a good mountain guide is about far more than technical ability.

It’s about making good decisions when things get complicated. Reading terrain. Finding the right route. Managing risk. Knowing when to push, when to adapt, and when to turn around. Most importantly, it’s about the people you share the experience with.

My clients are always at the centre of what I do. I love working with people from completely different backgrounds and experience levels. For me, its about helping my clients discover what they are capable of in the mountains. Whether that means guiding someone toward a long-held objective, teaching them the fundamentals of alpine travel, or helping an experienced climber make their next progression, I aim for every person I work with to leave more confident and capable than when they arrived.

I’m constantly working to improve my own technical ability, but I believe the most fullfilling mountain progression goes beyond skills and equipment. It develops judgement, awareness and the mindset to move through complex environments with confidence.

That’s the foundation of my guiding and mentorship: not simply getting you up the mountain, but helping you become a more capable person, in life and in the mountains.

The mountains have given me some of the most challenging, rewarding and memorable experiences of my life. Now, I want to share that experience with others and help you build the skills, confidence and judgement to create your own.
